SAN MATEO (KRON)– A San Mateo canine groomer and the nationwide chain he worked for were hit with a suit Tuesday by the owners of a dog that died after what was expected to be a regular nail clipping last May.KRON4’s Maureen Kelly spoke to the owners who are still grieving their loss, and their lawyer who says the company PetSmart has a long list of problems involving animals being hurt or even killed by their groomers.This is video revealing 1-year-old Dachshund Henry prior to he was eliminated his owners says they took Henry and his 2 brother or sisters to be groomed at this San Mateo PetSmart back in May.” It was horrific,”Henry’s owner said”We took him for a nail clipping and he came out gushing blood. “That groomer Juan Zarate might be in front of a jury as soon as next week after
pleading innocent to charges of felony animal abuse and animal ruthlessness. The San Mateo D.A. says Zarate was upset that the dog wouldn’t comply which a necropsy revealed the dog had actually been strangled, suffered two damaged ribs and a punctured lung. On Tuesday in their attorney’s office, Stefan Zier and Terrie Peacock sat holding their making it through canines Bella and Tony carefully. They refer to Henry as their son.”We never ever had kids together, so I hope people understand that these are our children,”Zier said.
